INDIANAPOLIS – A chance for a promising second season ended so simply-and so badly for one Colts running back.
Vick Ballard was going through a typical Thursday practice and running a typical play at the team’s north side complex. But on this one in particular, he went to make a cut and felt a sharp pain in his knee.
That when this practice-and this injury-became atypical.
“Immediately I knew something was wrong when I went down,” said Ballard of the injury, which would turn out to cost him the season. “Like Coach (Chuck) Pagano said, it was a little freakish.”
Ballard tore his ACL on the play and will be sidelined for the rest of 2013. After the Colts’ 24-20 loss to the Dolphins on Sunday, Ballard talked for the first time since the injury on Fox 59 Sports Overtime with Chris Hagan and Jeremiah Johnson.
“I definitely wasn’t expecting this. But it happens in the game of football,” said Ballard of the injury. “All I can do is rehab and get ready for next year.”
