BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY (Oct. 23, 2014) – A Columbus woman died following a crash near the Bartholomew/Jennings County line Thursday morning.

According to Indiana State Police, a cream-colored 1987 Buick was going south on State Road 7 in Elizabethtown when it went across the center line and hit a flat-bed truck loaded with grain. The driver of the truck tried to avoid the other vehicle but couldn’t.

The Buick hit the front driver’s side of the truck before spinning around and stopping in the northbound lane of the road. State Road 7 was closed until about 11:30 a.m. as a result.

The driver of the Buick, Leslie Anna Gentry, 34, Columbus, died after the crash. The driver of the truck, Leonard R. Meek, 77, North Vernon, was treated for bruising at the scene.

State police said it’s unclear why Gentry’s car veered across the road.
