“The Colts happened to be at role call that day and Andrew Luck gave him a football and thanked him for what he had done. It was a great first day back for Officer Milburn,” said IMPD Commander James Waters.

Thursday evening the Martindale-Brightwood neighborhood honored Officer Greg Milburn for putting his life on the line and taking down a gunman who killed two people.

The neighborhood association presented Officer Milburn with a plaque. Officer Milburn was also presented with a ‘Key to the City’ from Councilman Oliver.

Officer Milburn responded to a home on Dearborn Street May 30th in less one minute after 84-year-old Julia Morrow called 911 for help.

Police say Morrow and her granddaughter 30-year-old Inity Morrow were killed by 36-year-old Quintico Goolsby.  Officer Greg Milburn ran up to the house when he heard the gunshots and got into a shootout with the suspect. Officer Milburn survived after being shot once near the abdomen. He was saved by his bullet proof vest.

“Thank you officer. Thank you for what you have done, putting your life on the line. It’s something that you didn’t have to do – we understand it is your job but you took a position to try and save a life,” said Anthony Beverly, a neighborhood resident.

Officer Milburn and other officers from the East District stayed during the neighborhood meeting to participate in the crime and safety conversation. The east-side neighborhood were Officer Milburn was shot is one of Indianapolis’ most dangerous areas.
