INDIANAPOLIS (Nov. 10, 2014) - The Marion County coroner identified a boy who was killed in a weekend shooting.

Damoni Troutman, 5, died after the Saturday shooting. The coroner's report said Troutman died from a gunshot wound to the head and ruled the case a homicide.

It happened just after midnight in the 1700 block of Century Circle South in the Oakbrook Park apartment complex.

Police say the boy was shot by his brother. Their grandmother was watching three children, all siblings under the age of 10, in the apartment when one found a gun in the home.

Officers arrived to find Troutman with an apparent gunshot wound to the head. He was unconscious and taken to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health where he died a short time later.

Investigators told FOX59 News -- they're looking at a man, who has a felony record, as a possible owner of the gun involved in the shooting.

The Marion County Prosecutors Office is now handling the investigation. Attorneys there say no charges have been filed as of Monday, but it's possible charges could be filed this week.

The Marion County Sheriff's Office has been working to stop shootings like this from happening by offering free gun locks. Within a year, the sheriff's office says its given away more than 5,000 of those free locks at different locations in the city.
