The Marion County Coroner has determined the identity of a man whose body was found inside a burned-out truck Monday night.

The coroner used fingerprints to determine that the victim was James Shaw, 23, Indianapolis. Firefighters responded to a vehicle fire Monday just before 11 p.m. When they put out the fire, they found Shaw’s remains inside. It happened at 3705 N. Lasalle St. on the east side.

According to a report from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, witnesses heard gunshots and a loud boom in the area just before the burned truck was found.

Shaw’s sister and mother filed a police report Tuesday morning, saying someone had kidnapped and held him for ransom

Fox59 has learned that Shaw has been in trouble before, with arrests for drugs and domestic battery.
