(May 21, 2014) – A construction crane fell onto a passing car Wednesday afternoon, backing up interstate traffic.

It happened on Interstate 69 near 82nd Street. Indiana State Police said the crane–mounted on the back of a truck–rolled onto its side and hit a passenger vehicle as it was passing by. Two women were taken to St. Vincent Hospital, though their conditions were unknown.

Sgt. Rich Myers said crews were using the crane to hang a sign. The load became too heavy, causing the crane and truck to tip over into traffic.

The accident was slowing traffic in the area. The right three lanes of southbound I-69 were closed, and INDOT advised drivers to seek alternate routes. Traffic cleared up later in the afternoon.
