INDIANAPOLIS (June 16, 2015) – A woman died after a condo fire on the northwest side Tuesday morning.

The fire broke out around 5:15 a.m. in the 4800 block of London Drive, which is near 47th Street and Georgetown Road. Crews arrived to find the home engulfed in flames. A woman who’d made it outside told them another woman was still upstairs, right where the fire appeared to be the most intense.

According to the Pike Township Fire Department, it took crews about 10 minutes to get the fire under control. They found the victim, 89-year-old Eleanor Mitchell, dead upstairs.

Pike Township initially called the Indianapolis Fire Department to help but later canceled that call. Crews were still looking for the cause of the fire, which also caused smoke damage to the adjacent condo.
