INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — A boil water order on the south side of Indianapolis remains in effect after a water main break on Saturday.

Citizens Energy Group officials say repairs are now complete after a main break at Stop 11 Road and Emerson Avenue. The break was caused by a contractor doing construction in the area.

“A precautionary boil water order issued by Citizens remains in effect until completion of testing expected Monday morning.,” a Citizens Energy statement said.

Customers should boil their water used for drinking or cooking.

“People with severely compromised immune systems, infants and some elderly may be at increased risk,” the statement continued. “These people should seek advice about drinking water from their health care providers. General guidelines are available from Environmental Protection Agency’s safe Drinking Water Hotline at (800) 426-4791.”

“As water pressure returns to normal, customers should expect some air in the lines in their house,” Citizens Energy stated. “This is normal and customers should let the water run until it is clear.”

The following area is affected by the boil water order:

Northern Bounds:

Citizens water customers south of Edgewood Avenue and I-74.

Southern Bound:

Citizens water customers north of County Line Road.

Eastern Bound:

Citizens water customers to the west and south of I-74.

Western Bound:

Citizens water customers east of Emerson Avenue to I-65, then parallel to I-65 to County Line Road.

Not Impacted:

St. Francis Hospital is not impacted by the boil water advisory. Also, Indiana American Water customers in Shelby County are not impacted by this boil water advisory.

Crews with Citizens Energy are working to repair a water main break on the city’s south side.

The break was reported just before 10 a.m. Saturday in the area of Emerson Avenue and Stop 11 Road. Citizens Energy reports that a 16-inch water main broke.

Crews tell us they expect it will be a couple of hours until the water main is repaired. Motorists should avoid the area if possible.

Until the water main is repaired, customers should expect low water pressure or no water.
