INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (November 12, 2015) – Flyers advertising a reward are in the front window of a neighbor’s house, just a couple doors down from the home where Amanda Blackburn was shot in the head during a robbery. The 28-year-old mother was the wife of an Indianapolis pastor, Davey Blackburn. The couple was expecting their second child.

Doctors took the expectant mother off life support and pronounced her dead on Thursday. Neighbors held a Crime Watch meeting the day before with this tragedy weighing heavy on their hearts.

“We just talked about vigilance and not laying down for this, and I don’t think anybody in the neighborhood is going to lay down to this we are going to fight this,” said Ryan McConnell, Woods of North Kessler Crime Watch President.

The shooting happened at around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the couple’s home in the 2800 block of Sunnyfield Court.

Police are searching for connections to other recent crimes that happened the same day. A burglary took place just a few houses down from the Blackburn home. Police are also looking at potential connections with a home invasion on the northeast side. Suspects in that case were captured on surveillance video.

“Don’t be paranoid there is no reason to live in fear in this city, we just need to be prepared when we’re prepared and we have a plan of action that will help us in almost any case. It’s incumbent on us to make sure this doesn’t happen again,” said Troy Riggs, former Indianapolis Public Safety Director

The crime watch group is already planning another meeting.

“We all have to take responsibility and do what we can to prevent things like this but also just to not run and hide,” said McConnell.

Blackburn and her husband moved from South Carolina to Indianapolis in 2012 to start the Resonate Church on the north side.
