Drive-by shooting on west side leaves 1 dead, 1 injured

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — A deadly drive-by shooting is under investigation on Indianapolis’ west side.

Officers were called to the 5600 block of Port Au Prince Street, near Rockville Road and North Mickley Avenue, just before 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. This is at the Addison Creek on Rockville apartments.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) confirmed one person died, and a second person was injured in the shooting. The Marion County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as 21-year-old DaQuan Barner.

The second victim, who is believed to be related to the first, was shot in the shoulder and taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Witnesses said the shots were fired from a car, but a description has not been released. Anyone who witnessed the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS (8477). Tips can be left anonymously.
