DELAWARE COUNTY, Ind. – A massage parlor in downtown Muncie was raided Wednesday.
Delaware County sheriff’s deputies surrounded the nondescript commercial building in the 300 block of W. Adams St. shortly after 1:30 p.m.
Deputies say the bust comes after numerous complaints from neighbors about possible illegal activity and a lengthy investigation. Investigators said they believed the women were doing illegal massages.
"We’re looking for more than a massage. Our officers were able to get inside and get the evidence they needed for this case. All that is videotaped and audiotaped," said Delaware County Sheriff Ray Dudley.
Inside the massage parlor are various rooms for services. In the back are a kitchen and two bedrooms. Investigators believe the illegal massages may have been happening in those bedrooms.
"Two bedrooms set up with only female clothing in it and it's only undergarments and then provocative looking dresses," Dudley said.
Neighbors explained they knew it was only a matter of time before the business was busted. They said they kept a close eye on the front doors that would be active at all hours of the day and night.
"We knew something was up when we noticed there was no sign, so we looked up the address. There’s no phone number," one neighbor said.
Another neighbor said he called police multiple times to express concern over the increase in foot traffic. He said "Johns" would park their cars a block down the street and walk to the massage parlor.
"Strangers that we don’t know parking in the neighborhood. There are kids in the neighborhood," one man said.
Two women were escorted from the business in handcuffs. They could face prostitution charges. Investigators are getting an interpreter to help with a language barrier. They said if human trafficking is involved, the women will get help from local organizations.
