Police find body in burning truck on northeast side; death makes fourth homicide in 24 hours

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Police are investigating a homicide on the near northeast side of Indianapolis after they found a body in a burning truck.

IMPD and firefighters from the Indianapolis Fire Department were dispatched to the 3600 block of Dearborn Avenue shortly after 6:30 a.m. Wednesday morning in reference to a car fire.

After extinguishing the fire, firefighters found an unresponsive adult male inside the pickup suffering from obvious signs of trauma from the fire.

At this time detectives will not know if the victim suffered any other forms of trauma until after an autopsy has been performed. Detectives have not yet positively identified the victim’s age or gender.

Police are investigating this as a homicide making it the fourth homicide in the last 24 hours.

Detectives are canvassing the neighborhood in hopes of gathering information about the circumstances of this death investigation, but they do not have any reliable suspect information.

They have not yet made a connection but are investigating if this incident is related to the earlier shooting in the 2700 block of Lullwater Lane.

The Marion County Coroner’s Office will confirm the victim’s identity, cause, and manner of death after an autopsy is performed.
