Man accused of wielding machete in attempt to rob blind woman’s apartment

LAFAYETTE (March 10, 2015) – An 18-year-old Lafayette man is accused of using a machete to break into the apartment of a blind woman.

Just before 9 p.m. on March 2, a neighbor called police when he saw three people trying to rob a house across the street in the 2000 block of Greenbush Street. Police found Luis Torres, 18, and a juvenile nearby. Torres had a knife and machete with him, police said.

Detectives said a third person, described as a tall white male wearing black with a black backpack, got away.

Investigators said Torres and the others were trying to get marijuana. Torres was charged with burglary while armed with a deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit burglary and conspiracy to commit robbery.
