INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Two people are seriously injured after they were nearly robbed then stabbed on the far east side of Indianapolis Tuesday morning.

The stabbing happened shortly after 1 a.m. in the Spanish Oaks Apartments near East 38th Street and Mitthoeffer Road.

Police say two people were getting out of their car when a man walked up to them and forced them into a downstairs apartment unit. That’s when the assailant tried to rob them, but he didn’t get anything. So he stabbed them and fled the area.

Investigators with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) are at the apartment complex canvassing for witnesses and trying to find surveillance video.

Both victims were rushed to the hospital in serious condition.

IMPD says they believe this was an isolated incident, but no one is in custody at this time.
