INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Indianapolis Metropolitan police are conducting a death investigation after a woman was found shot and killed inside a car Wednesday morning.

The discovery was made near Montery Road and Delmont Drive on the far east side around 8 a.m.

When authorities arrived at the scene, they found a car riddled with bullets and a woman dead behind the wheel.

One neighbor told police she heard gunshots Tuesday night, and she saw the victim's car pull up directly in front of her home, but no one discovered the dead woman until this morning.

Neighbors say they recognize the car but not the victim inside.

Police say they’re still trying to piece together what sparked the violence. This is the second murder in the same neighborhood in less than a month.

The victim's identity has not been released at this time.
