Police: Anderson man admitted to smoking meth prior to fatal crash in Minnesota

BARNESVILLE, Minn. (Jan. 21, 2016) – An Indiana man admitted to smoking meth prior to a deadly crash in Minnesota, police say.

Derrick Pierce, 23, Anderson, was behind the wheel when he crashed Sunday morning near Barnesville, Minn., according to KVRR. Police said Pierce crashed into the back of a semi truck on I-94, killing one of his passengers, 30-year-old David Hinkle. Another passenger—24-year-old Ashley Callahan—and Pierce were injured in the wreck, which happened around 7:40 a.m.

Police said Pierce admitted to smoking meth before the crash. He’s being held in North Dakota’s Cass County Jail. Pierce faces two counts of criminal vehicular homicide and two counts of criminal vehicular operation in Minnesota’s Clay County.
