AVON, Ind. — Police are asking the public to help identify two robbers caught on camera stealing a television.

The Avon Police Department says the alleged robbery took place Thursday evening on Trefoil Drive, which is in The Settlement subdivision in the area of CR 200 South and Dan Jones Road. The street is a brand new development in the area, with most of the homeowners having just moved in, or being in the process of moving in. Thankfully, the owners were not home during the burglary, however, their security cameras did catch the crooks in the act. The system alerted the family, who then got a neighbor to call police.

“The potential for a case to escalate to something like this, to someone being injured or even killed, is astronomical,” Avon Police Deputy Chief Brian Nugent said when asked about the family being gone at the time. “Going through a home, people have the right to protect themselves in their residence.”

One of the suspects appears to have a handgun in the video Avon police posted on their Twitter page.

The two men made off with a television and some cash. Avon Police said the two were gone by the time they showed up, but one neighbors believes they tried to hit her house too. Her home surveillance caught two people approaching her home, however, they scampered off when dogs started barking, and a motion light turned on.

“We are aware of that information that was provided to us last night, or this morning. We are not aware if those are the same individuals that we are looking at,” Deputy Chief Nugent said.

Avon Police offer a community camera registration program that allows home owners to notify police of their security systems, so they know who to call when a nearby crime hits.

“We’ve been doing that, and so far it has generated some info for us,” Deputy Chief Nugent said.

If you want to register your camera system you can here.

If you recognize the suspects or have any information regarding this incident please call Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-8477.
