Coroner identifies man dead in near west side shooting

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to a shooting on the city’s near west side Tuesday.

IMPD was dispatched near the 1000 block of Centennial St. on a report of shots fired just before 1:30 p.m..

Police said officers arrived near 10th St. and Centennial St. and found an adult male victim suffering from apparent gunshot wounds in an alley just east of Centennial.

EMS arrived on scene and pronounced the man dead.

IMPD said homicide detectives canvassed the area for witnesses, and the investigation remains active.

The coroner’s office identified the man as 51-year-old Christopher Brooks.
