BROWNSBURG, Ind. (April 2, 2016) – Sheriff’s deputies are still investigating the death of a Brownsburg woman and the shooting of her husband.
Hendricks County deputies arrived to the scene in the 10200 block of Homestead around 12:06 p.m. on Saturday for a welfare check. A concerned family member had contacted police when they were unable to make contact with the residents and found both vehicles at the home.
Deputies say they entered the home through an unlocked window. Inside, they found a woman who had died along with a man suffering from gunshot wounds.
The woman was identified as Laura Edwards, 52, and the man was identified as Brian Edwards, 62.
Brian was transported to Eskenazi Hospital in extremely critical condition. Investigators believe his gunshot wounds were self-inflicted.
Initially, when officers arrived on scene, they thought Edwards was also shot because of how close she was to Brian’s body and his obvious wounds. But an autopsy revealed that there were no signs of trauma. Toxicology results are pending, as is her cause and manner of death.
“Our detectives are still performing follow up investigation to try to piece together what exactly happened inside the home. With toxicology pending, this is still an active investigation. We are still investigating this case as a homicide until detectives are able to complete their investigation,” said Captain Amanda Goings with the Hendricks County Sheriff’s Department.
