A woman who tossed a live puppy in a trash can learned her sentence Tuesday.
Shemika Robinson, 36, will spend 180 days in jail and must serve 50 hours of community service. The community service will be at Animal Care and Control.
Robinson threw the puppy in the trash on Feb. 13. A sanitation worker found the dog inside a trash bag.
Robinson claimed the puppy had died from parvo and that’s why she threw him away. Veterinarian determined the dog didn’t show any signs of parvo.
The sanitation worker who discovered the puppy named him Garby and adopted him.
