HAMBURG, Germany —  Passenger Britta Englisch had mixed feelings about boarding a Germanwings aircraft just one day after the co-pilot of another Germanwings airliner deliberately crashed it into the side of a mountain. But her fears were put at ease when the pilot went out of his way to assure the passengers they would be safe.

Englisch wrote about her experience on the Germanwings Facebook page in a post that’s been shared almost 18,000 times.

She said the captain welcomed each passenger personally from the cabin. Once all of the passengers were in their seats he gave a short speech withot using the PA system. He told the passengers that he and his crew were experiencing the same mixed feelings that the passengers were experiencing. But despite the horrific accident the previous day, they were all aboard the aircraft voluntarily.

The pilot then went on to say that he has a family and each crew member has a family and they will do everything in their power to make sure they are all back safely with them in the evening.

According to Englisch the whole plane was completely silent, and then everyone burst out into applause.
