ANDERSON (Aug. 29, 2014) – The Wigwam is finally safe.

The Anderson Redevelopment Commission and Anderson Community Schools board of trustees approved a plan that would preserve the historic venue.

According to our newsgathering partners at the Indianapolis Star, Indianapolis-based BWI (Black and White Investments) and Pinebrook Properties will take control of the property next week and keep it until at least 2030.

Part of the property will be converted into family housing, the Star reports.

Anderson Community Schools pledged $630,000 to the project. In return, it will get to use the facility rent-free 12 days a year.

If an agreement had not been reached by Sept. 2, the building would have been demolished.
