The Firestone Indy Lights Freedom 100 brought some excitement to Carb day at Indianapolis Motor Speedway with a four- car wide finish. Peter Dempsey beat out three other cars on the final lap by .002 seconds to capture his first Indy Lights victory.

Carlos Munoz, who is also racing as a rookie in the Indy 500 Sunday, led the majority of the race with 27 of the 40 laps. On the last lap, the pole sitter Sage Karam, Gabby Chaves, Munoz and Dempsey were neck in neck as they crossed the finish line.

“If you are going to win your first Indy Lights race, there’s not one place that could be any better in the world than the Indianapolis Motor Speedway,” Dempsey said after the win.

Carlos Munoz did not get the win but he is not unhappy with his fourth place finish.

“I am happy with the fourth place. I think I lead the championship right now, have more points. It’s a great feeling, and I did my best,” Munoz said.

The Indy Lights series continues June 14-15 with The Milwaukee Mile.
