INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Dec. 28, 2014) — The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) has released the description of a vehicle that may have hit a person on the southeast side and left the scene.

The hit and run happened Saturday night on Carson Avenue near Bacon Street.

Detectives think it was a dark colored 2004-2005 Ford Ranger pickup truck. It would have front end damage specifically to the grill. They say a passenger side headlight may also have damage.

A neighbor says he heard it happen.

“About 10:57 or so we had heard a loud bang and wasn’t sure it was a gunshot or a car accident. Looked out the front door and didn’t see anything,” said Nicholas, a neighbor who lives near the crash site.

As Nicholas went to get his kids from their friend’s house across the street, he saw the man’s body and immediately tried to save him.

“Checked his pulse on his wrist, checked his pulse on his neck and couldn’t find anything. Checked to see if there was any rise and fall on the chest and there was nothing,” he said.

Realizing the worst, Nicholas and a friend decided to do even more out of respect.

“We covered him up with a blanket and made sure we called the cops,” Nicholas said. “It was kinda surreal when you get up close and personal with it because I personally never seen a body that’s been that twisted.”

Police got to the intersection quickly and immediately tried to figure out who the person was who was hit and where the vehicle was that hit him.

“I don’t see how you could hit somebody and leave them chilling in the gutter knowing that they’re dead or possibly dying,” Nicholas said.
