Driver crashes vehicle after fleeing from police on east side

HANCOCK CO., Ind. –An 18-year-old crashed his vehicle after leading police on a high-speed chase a cross two counties early Sunday morning.

Around 2 a.m. a New Palestine officer made a routine traffic stop on a pickup truck at Hancock County Roads 300 South and 500 west.

According to the officer, the driver made a remark that he could outrun the officer and drove off at a high rate of speed.

At one point officers say the driver was westbound in the eastbound lanes of Washington Street as the vehicle headed into Marion County.

Other officers joined in the pursuit which came to an end when the driver crashed his truck while attempting to get onto Interstate 465 at E. Washington Street.

The driver, 18-year-old Casey Carleton was first taken to Eskenazi Hospital to be checked out for possible injuries and then taken to the Hancock County Jail where he faces multiple charges.

Carleton has been charged criminal recklessness, resisting, possession of paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, and reckless driving.
