SHELBY COUNTY, Ind. (May 2, 2015)–Indiana State Police have captured a driver who fled the scene after striking another vehicle along Interstate 74 Saturday evening.

Shelby County Sheriff’s dispatch got a call around 7:15 P.M. about a vehicle struck in the West bound lanes of I-74 near London Road.

An Indiana State Trooper on his way to the scene reported seeing a vehicle matching the description of the vehicle wanted in the hit and run and began a pursuit.

The trooper said the driver led him in a short chase, exiting the interstate at Acton Road.

The driver, later identified as 31-year-old James Hines, stopped the car at the Acton United Methodist Church and then fled on foot.

Police say the trooper caught the driver a short time later and took him to the Shelby County jail where he is preliminarily charged with drunk driving.

No injuries were reported in the incident.
