INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (March 6, 2014)– Indianapolis Metropolitan police got a call about a stolen vehicle Thursday morning in what turned out to be a hit-and-run crash.

A driver of a black Ford SUV drove over a lawn and through a driveway on Driftwood Drive, slamming into a parked Mini Cooper and sending it 50 feet into the side of the next door neighbor’s garage.

Donald Perry said he came out of his house at about 5:15 a.m. to get in his Mini Cooper and go to work and when his car wasn’t in his driveway, he reported it stolen.

“I got a flashlight out and came out and saw the debris and traced my car to my neighbor’s house,” Perry said.

He saw his car halfway through the brick side of his neighbor’s garage and a parked black Ford SUV sitting next to the house. The driver of the Ford left the crash scene.

IMPD and Indianapolis firefighters got to the scene at about 5:30 a.m. but believe the crash happened a few hours before. The woman living in the home thought she heard thunder at about 3:30 a.m., likely when the Mini Cooper went flying into the side of her garage. She was not injured. Firefighters were able to shore up the side of her home so it wouldn’t collapse.

A tow truck came for both Perry’s Mini Cooper and the Ford. Perry said he’ll need to get a new car.

“I still have a van I can drive to work until then, but yeah, I’ll be car shopping,” Perry said.

Police are still investigating the crash.
