Community and school leaders are joining forces to keep teens safe this prom season.

Friday, the Department of Public Safety kicked of its campaign encouraging teens to make smart choices behind the wheel on prom night.

Experts said between three and five teenagers will die this year as a result of drinking and driving, either to or from prom.

“What we’re hoping is that we can have a safe prom season, that the next day there’s nothing but good, positive stories, sharing information with family and no tragedies occurring in Indianapolis,” said Director Troy Riggs.

Safety officials said while the campaign centers around the prom season, they hope it will encourage young drivers to make smart choices all the time.
