Indianapolis teen drowns at Hancock County campground

HANCOCK COUNTY, Ind. (June 24, 2015) – An Indianapolis teen drowned Wednesday afternoon at the Heartland Resort campground in Greenfield.

Hancock County dispatch received the call just before 4:30 p.m.  According to a witness, an 18-year-old male fell into the water at the Heartland Resort campground, and the man didn’t resurface.

A dive team, the Greenfield Fire Department, the Greenfield Police Department, and the Hancock County Sheriff were all called to the scene.

Crews pulled the male out of the water about a half hour later.

Paramedics transported the victim to Hancock Regional Hospital.

The man passed away at the hospital. He has been identified as Anthony M. Moore Jr.

Indiana Conservation Officers conducted an investigation. According to his friends, Moore didn’t know how to swim, and his friends were trying to teach him.

While they were swimming, Moore went under the surface of the water, His friends tried to help him, but they were unable to get him to safety.

He was recovered in eight to ten feet of water near the concrete retaining wall. he was not wearing a life jacket.
