INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – An employee at a plasma center on Indy’s south side was shot during an attempted robbery.
The shooting occurred around 5:30 a.m. at Saturn Biomedical Plasma Center. The business is located in the 3900 block of Madison Avenue near the intersection of East Hanna Avenue.
The plasma center normally opens at 7 in the morning, but police say the victim showed up to work nearly two hours early. That’s when two men stormed inside and the attempted robbery turned violent.
The victim actually called 911 herself after being shot by a would-be thief. The employee told police two men came into the business and demanded money.
According to the police report, the armed men told the woman to open the company safe and when she refused they shot her in the leg.
“It’s scary and it’s unfortunate really,” said Alonzo Hunt.
Alonzo says his daughter has worked at the clinic with the victim for several months and hasn’t complained about feeling unsafe, but as a parent the violence is definitely alarming.
“I think it’s crazy. People come here to work and someone robs them and shoots them. It’s crazy,” said Hunt.
The outside of the strip mall includes several surveillance cameras. There are also cameras inside that recorded the attempted robbery, but so far detectives have not released any pictures of the suspects.
The victim is back home resting after being released from the hospital and is expected to the be okay. She told police overnight the two crooks took off in a black SUV.
It turns out, the men ran away without taking any property from the business.
