(March 5, 2014) – Depending on who you talk to, it’s a tantalizing glimpse into the future, a hoax or a loving homage to the Back to the Future movies.

A supposed tech start-up company called HUVr set the internet on fire with a video purporting to show a functioning hoverboard in use. The promotional video starts with Christopher Lloyd in a DeLorean and includes shots of Tony Hawk, Terrell Owens and Moby on a hoverboard inspired by Back to the Future Part II.

Clearly, it’s a “viral” campaign for…something. What that “something” is, is up for debate. Some excited fans hope against hope that the hoverboard is a reality. Mashable found evidence the video came from “Funny or Die.” Others are convinced it’s part of a campaign to “reboot” the Back to the Future movies.

Whatever it turns out to be, you can check it out here:

The company has also launched a website.
