INDIANAPOLIS, Ind (April 29, 2015)– There’s trouble at the top for a central Indiana-based foundation started by Subway spokesman and Indiana native Jared Fogle.
The executive director of the Jared Foundation, 43-year-old Russell Taylor, is behind bars, preliminarily charged with child exploitation, possession of child pornography, and voyeurism.
Taylor was arrested today at his home in the 1300 block of Salem Creek Boulevard in Indianapolis.
Neighbors said they were shocked watching the whole thing play out.
“People coming in and out of the house,” said William Stout.
Stout saw the big bust go down at 43-year-old Russell Taylor’s home on the city’s west side.
“This is a very quiet neighborhood. One way in and one way out,” said Marisa Potter, “We notice everything.”
Potter and her husband watched the police activity, too. Both unmarked and marked cars from multiple agencies were staked out at the home, she said. Potter said investigators were collecting lots of evidence.
Another neighbor said the bust lasted about four hours.
State Police said their investigation started after getting a tip from a concerned citizen, who got a text message from Taylor.
In serving a search warrant Wednesday, police allege they found evidence of child porn in the home, preliminarily charging Taylor with three counts of possession of child pornography, three counts of child exploitation, and three counts of voyeurism.
“There are a lot of children in this neighborhood,” Potter said.
“We’ve got schools right here, and next door of course it’s something we worry about with kids around,” said Stout.
We waited for hours at the home Wednesday. A woman came out and drove away without answering any questions.
Taylor’s LinkedIn page said he’s been executive director of the Jared Foundation for seven years. It was started in 2004 by Subway spokesman and Zionsville resident Jared Fogle to help teach kids about leading healthy lives.
We reached out to the foundation for a statement along with Subway.
The Subway Corporation responded, saying:
“We don’t have any affiliation with the foundation, and we were disgusted to hear about these claims. We’re glad Jared took quick action to sever all his ties with Mr. Taylor.”
We went by Jared Fogle’s home, but nobody came to the door. Fogle later released the following statement to FOX59:
I was shocked to learn of the disturbing allegations against Mr. Taylor. Effective immediately, the Jared Foundation is severing all ties with Mr. Taylor.
As of Wednesday night, online records show Taylor remains locked up. Bond hasn’t been set.
