INDIANAPOLIS (June 16, 2015) -- Funny money is circulating through the circle city and the police reports are rolling in. IMPD has received more than 10 reports about fake cash in the past five days. Business owners who have been on the receiving end are fed up.

"I didn't figure it out until after the transaction, but it just left me feeling really bamboozled because I'm in the service industry," said Latesha Duncan, who runs a makeup studio out of the Plaza Mall. She says someone stuck her with a shady $5 bill before she figured it out.

"I went across the street to a restaurant and I just took my money out to pay for it and they put a pen on it and was like sorry we can't take this. So look at the position it put me in," said Duncan.

The damage was much more severe for her neighbor who also runs a shop out of the Plaza Mall. She didn't want to be identified but tells us she just encountered a fake $100 bill last week.

"As soon as they turned around I took my marker and marked it, oh it turns black right away so I chased them down to the parking lot."

The business owners said the men gave her good money back after she approached them in the parking lot. She admits the move was risky but she couldn't afford to be bilked out of cash.

The new $100 bill was unveiled in 2013 with new features like the color changing bell inside the inkwell and the 3-D security ribbon. In addition to a sharp eye business owners should take advantage of the counterfeit money pen.

Most of the recent police reports included local chain restaurants like Burger King and McDonald's where one manager recognized the person who used fake money before.

Local police take the initial reports that will be handed over to the U.S. Secret Service for further investigation.
