MARION, Ind. (Dec 27th, 2014) — A house fire that killed two people in Marion is under investigation.

The fire was reported Saturday morning in the 1800 block of West 9th Street.

Firefighters were called around 9 a.m. after someone saw smoke coming from the home.

The Grant County coroner and State Fire Marshal’s Office were on the scene.

Robin Lyons, 61 and  Melody Teegarden, 55, both died in the fire.  Five dogs also were killed.

Fire officials say entry in to the home was more difficult because of furniture in front of the door.

“They’re going to be dearly missed by all of us,” said Joseph Rigby, Teegarden’s son.

Rigby said his mother loved her Grandkids, and Lyons was a great guy.

“I’ve known him since I was a baby, he’s been a great guy,” Rigby said. “Just overly nice.”

State fire investigators are working with the local officials to figure out what caused the fire.
