INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (October 7, 2015) – The family of the Indiana University student whose body was found in Griffy Lake has finalized a memorial service.
Joseph Smedley was reported missing by his family Monday, September 28 after they say he sent them a note to tell them he was leaving the country.
On Friday, October 2, Indiana Conservation Officers found Smedley’s body in Griffy Lake, just a few miles from the IU campus. A spokesperson says the cause of death is consistent with drowning.
The family says they have many unanswered questions regarding his death, and investigators have now started a death investigation.
“We’re not leaving any stones unturned,” said Smedley’s parents in a statement released earlier this week. “We’re working diligently to get to the bottom of Joseph’s death and appreciate all the thoughts and prayers from the community.”
Smedley’s parent’s announced their finalized plans for their son’s memorial service on Wednesday.
The memorial service will take place Saturday at Lawrence Central High School in the main gymnasium from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The memorial service is open to the public.
