INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Jan. 21, 2015)– When a west side woman’s family spotted Bradley Baldwin’s mugshot on FOX59 News, along with the video of a murder and police standoff, they shuttered at the memory of how close they came to the same fate.

“He said in open court that he would kill my sister,” said a woman who still fears for the lives of her family and wants to remain anonymous.  “She describes it as hell.”

IMPD reports from 2014 confirm the woman’s story.

The woman said Baldwin took up residence at her sister’s house in September of 2013 and kept the woman and her son prisoner.

Tuesday’s news brought the memories flooding back.

“It’s the same thing he did to my sister…held her at gunpoint,” she said.

Detectives said Baldwin shot two men and killed Dustin Houghton, 25, in the 100 block of North Sheffield Avenue early Tuesday.

Within hours police tracked Baldwin, 37, to a home in the 3600 block of Creston Drive where a SWAT standoff lasted several hours before he was taken into custody.

Cecil Warner, 37, was arrested at another address on Belmont Avenue.

The FOX59 viewer said Baldwin kept her sister hostage at gunpoint for several months until he allowed her son to attend school in January of last year.

“All I know is my nephew went to school that morning telling his teacher that he’s worried about his mother and SWAT stand off started.”

Baldwin was charged with intimidation and criminal recklessness but his victim was too intimidated to testify and refused to cooperate with prosecutors.

“She was held by multiple different people making sure she didn’t go to court for him,” said her sister.

The charges against Baldwin were dropped though he was served with a protective order which he violated in June, resulting in a November arrest and his December escape from a court-ordered work release program.

The woman said her sister is still terrified of Baldwin.

“She was a good person, she was like a good daughter, she worked everyday, she worked for her son, and now he has took that from her,” she cried. “We don’t know if people are watching but we always tend to look over our shoulder.”

Baldwin has previous arrests for robbery, theft, domestic battery, battery and possession of methamphetamine.

A neighbor at the home where the woman was held hostage in 2013 told FOX59 News visitors came at all hours of the night to the address and she noticed the woman and her son never came outside.

“At this point he’s not getting out hopefully and it’s time that people know what he’s capable of,” said the sister. “We knew what he’s capable of.”

A woman who identified herself as Baldwin’s mother called FOX59 News to admit her son had some trouble in the past but the woman and her sister are lying about the hostage incident.
