Authorities are investigating after human remains were found in Warren County.

A farmer harvesting crops found an abandoned vehicle near County Roads 600 North and 900 East Wednesday. The farmer found the remains a short distance from the car.

Officers said the car had been reported as stolen after it was not returned to the rental company. Tracey Rutel, 51, was listed on the rental agreement. Rutel was reported missing to Muncie Police on Aug. 20, 2013.

An autopsy conducted Thursday was unable to identify the deceased or the manner of death. Investigators will now use dental records and DNA samples to identify the victim.

Anyone with information is asked to call Indiana State Police at 765-567-2125.
