INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – A man was hospitalized after falling into a trench on the city’s near west side Wednesday afternoon.
Authorities were called to the scene in the 1000 block of North Tibbs Avenue around 1:30 p.m. Workers with Mr. Plumber were working on a sewer line in front of a home when the soft ground gave way. Workers yelled to a man who was close to the trench to get away, but it was too late. He fell into the trench, and his entire body was covered in dirt for about 10 seconds.
Workers were able to dig around him and uncover his body. When fire crews arrived he was trapped from the chest down.
He was alert and conscious when he was taken to the hospital to be checked out.
