Firefighters battle fire in freezing temperatures, one slightly injured

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Jan. 9, 2014)— A firefighter with the Indianapolis Fire Department was injured while battling a fire on the southeast side of Indianapolis in bitter cold temperatures Friday night.

The fire occurred at a vacant residence near Cottage Avenue and Asbury Street.

Fire officials say the slight injury was to the firefighter’s hand caused by a nail.

The fire caused an estimated $40,000 worth of damage.
