FISHERS, Ind. –A Fishers police officer narrowly escaped being struck by a fleeing suspect in a restaurant parking lot Sunday morning.
Around 10:30 a.m. Fishers Police were called to the McDonald’s parking lot near East 96th Street and Interstate 69 on a report of a suspicious man in a black Jeep Cherokee.
As officers were checking the status of the man’s driver’s license the man threw the jeep in reverse and rammed into a police SUV nearly striking an officer.
Police say the suspect fled a short distance before striking a curb and disabling the Jeep. The suspect reportedly got out of the Jeep and attempted to carjack two occupied cars. The suspect was taken into custody after a brief foot pursuit.
It was determined the Jeep had been stolen during a carjacking Saturday night in Marion County.
No officers were hurt. The suspect was treated at the scene for wrist pain and transported to the Hamilton County Jail.
