INDIANAPOLIS (July 31, 2015) – Patients with Franciscan St. Francis Health started receiving letters this week about a data breach that may have compromised their personal information.

And now, with patients concerned about the breach, the company has set up a toll-free, 24-hour hotline they can call to get more information. The number is 1-888-438-3638.

Franciscan St. Francis Health said patient information may have been compromised after a breach at Medical Informatics Engineering (MIE), which the company contracted to facilitate communication between doctors and hospitals regarding medical tests. Franciscan wasn’t the only medical provider affected; nearly 200 providers across the country are also dealing with the breach, which MIE learned about in May.

Franciscan said MIE has been overwhelmed with calls, as has Experian, the agency that will provide credit and identity protection services to patients.

Franciscan said talking directly to MIE and Experian is still the best way to get information about the breach. However, the hotline will help patients with questions and walk them through the best approach for dealing with fallout from the breach.

The hotline (1-888-438-3638) is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Franciscan said it will remain open as long as necessary. The medical provider also compiled a list of frequently asked questions, which you can find here.
