Ft. Wayne priest removed from church amid sex abuse allegations

FORT WAYNE, Ind.– A Fort Wayne priest was removed from his duties as administrator of St. Joseph Catholic Church-Hessen Cassel following sex abuse allegations. 

The Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend said Father Cornelius Ryan was removed from public ministry on June 10, after the Superior of the Congregation of Holy Cross received a “credible allegation.”

Ryan is accused of sexually abusing a minor while serving in Africa approximately 20 years ago.

Church officials said they are handling the matter according to its policies and church’s norms.
