Gas smell reported in Westfield traced to chemical; problem not related to gas leak

WESTFIELD (April 14, 2015) – A gas smell in the Westfield area is the result of the release of odorant used in natural gas, according to city officials.

The smell was detected Tuesday morning in the area of State Road 32 and Little Chicago Road.

According to the Westfield Fire Department, Vectren is aware of the problem and is working on it. It will take some time for the smell to dissipate. Vectren said this is not a gas leak.
