HAMILTON COUNTY, Ind. — A Greenfield police officer was arrested by officers with the Fishers Police Department Sunday morning for operating while intoxicated.

Around 1 a.m. on Sunday, June 18, a Fishers Police Officer observed a white passenger car driving with a missing headlight and driving dangerously between lanes around 96th Street and Olio Road.

The officer proceeded to conduct a traffic stop to investigate. The driver, identified as Greenfield Police Department Officer Nichole Gilbert, was then arrested and taken to the Hamilton County Jail on suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

Gilbert has served on the Greenfield Police Department for 13 years. The Greenfield Police Department said in a statement that Gilbert was off-duty at the time of her arrest and was not driving a department-owned vehicle.

“We are committed to being transparent, even when we ourselves stumble,” reads a portion of the statement released by GPD.

The officer has been placed on administrative leave until an internal investigation has been completed.
