GREENWOOD, Ind. (May 5, 2014)—A Greenwood city councilman who suggested moving a new aquatic center to the other side of Interstate 65 plans to withdraw his proposal at Monday night’s council meeting.
Councilman Thom Hord explored building the pool facility next to the soon-to-be built GoodSports Village athletic complex near I-65 and County Line Road in order to boost visibility and revenue.
However, Greenwood Mayor Mark Myers and other city officials had concerns about the cost of buying the new land and losing the property tax revenue. Hord said he agrees.
All signs point to the pool being built at its original proposed location–Freedom Park. Construction is expected to begin this month.
