GREENWOOD – Police arrested a man accused of taking items from several cars in a Greenwood neighborhood.

Garrett Christian Tyler Warner, 19, was charged with three counts of theft, three counts of unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle, two counts of possession of a prescription drug and a count of possession of a schedule IV controlled substance.

According to a report from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, a woman called police after seeing a man park a blue minivan in front of her house and walk to cars in her driveway. The man tried to get inside the vehicles, but they were locked. He then went to another vehicle, where investigators said he took a jar containing loose change and a small flashlight.

Police pulled the van over around 11:30 p.m. Sunday near Smokey Row Road. During the ensuing traffic stop, police identified the man as Garrett Christian Tyler Warner, who initially denied being in the housing addition. Upon further questioning, he admitted being in the neighborhood, although he wouldn’t say why.

Inside the van Warner was driving, police found loose change, a small black flashlight, prescription drugs and an iPod Touch. All those items had been reported stolen during thefts from vehicles in the area.
