INDIANAPOLIS – FOX59 is proud to once again sponsor a Habitat for Humanity build.

An empty lot sits in the Mapleton Fall Creek neighborhood, but it will soon be full of laughter and love when Danielle Cox-Eland and her two girls, 6-year-old Jayda and 6-month-old Camryn, have a place to call their own.

“In January they said that I was accepted into the program. They had one more house left to be built in 2016. One more address,” Danielle said.

“I’ve known this neighborhood for a long time. And so I called them immediately and said, ‘Yes, I would love this address.’”

Danielle will put in 300 hours of what Habitat calls “sweat equity.” It includes classes on finances and budgeting and building her own home.

For Danielle, it’s a familiar task—she’s volunteered with Habitat for Humanity before.

“It’s an amazing thing to be a part of. It’s amazing to watch it and then also for me personally to know that that’s going to happen for me,” she said.

Danielle and her daughters are currently living with her mom, but that hasn’t always been the case.

“I’ve lived in apartments. I’ve moved basically every year since I was 18, so it’s a lot of moving.”

Now the professional hair stylist is ready to stay put with her family—and there’s a simple reason for that.

“I always grew up in a home,” she said. “I was born there, raised there, always lived there. And so I never knew the side of not having that and it was comforting.”

She can’t wait to have a home to call her own and looks forward to the lessons it will instill in her children.

“I think that the biggest thing for me and for them is being able to come home knowing this is theirs, this is our house. We worked for this. We helped build this. This is going to be ours,” she said, tearing up. “It’s just a really great feeling for us.”

It seems like Danielle’s oldest daughter, Jayda, already understands the significance of what’s happening.

“Me and my mom are moving to this house and I think it’s wonderful for us,” she said. “Me and my mom will love this. I know it.”

Danielle has a message for the Habitat volunteers who donate their time and effort to make dreams like hers come true.

“Thank you so much. It’s awesome. It’s amazing.”
