HANCOCK COUNTY (March 3, 2015) – An inmate was found dead at the Hancock County Jail Tuesday morning after an apparent suicide.

Jail officers found Michael Ryan Youngblood, 34, dead shortly after 6 a.m. during a routine check. Efforts were made to revive Youngblood, but he was pronounced dead at Hancock Regional Hospital.

The Hancock County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the death. Preliminary evidence indicated that Youngblood hanged himself by tying his jail-issued pants to the bars of his cell door. Investigators said there was no indication that Youngblood, who’d been convicted in a child molestation case, was suicidal.

A sentencing hearing was scheduled for next week. He was convicted in February, according to the sheriff’s department.

An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause of death.
