INDIANAPOLIS, Ind– If you can’t get enough chocolate and you tend to overindulge in sweet treats, an Indianapolis company has come up with the chocolate of the future and it’s guilt-free. We talked to the owner of the company about his new product called Epogee.

“This delivers all the taste and all the flavor of fat with 90 percent fewer calories than fat does,” said David Rowe, Choco Finesse CEO.

After 17 years of research Indianapolis based company, Choco Finesse says they’ve created a fat replacement that actually tastes good. With Americans struggling with obesity, the goal is to give people a healthy alternative they enjoy.

But how does this work?

“We basically take fat and we essentially pull it apart and put a little spacer between the two parts of fat and put it back together,” said Rowe.

We asked a dietitian her take on a product that could be a game-changer.

“It seems like a neat idea but I generally like to have my clients think about eating carbohydrates, proteins and fats all in moderation and all together,” said Staci Small, owner of The Wellness Philosophy.

Small, a registered dietitian, says if people can’t eat sweets in moderation they should talk to a dietitian about what’s causing them to binge. And when it comes to fat, that’s not always a bad thing.

“We need to think about what the body actually utilizes fat for and I think consumers often forget our bodies rely on those essential fat for production of certain hormones, absorption of nutrients,” said Small.

After intense testing and review by the FDA, Epogee is ready to be used in a wide range of products like peanut butter, candy products and baked goods.

“It’s been called the most exciting new food innovation in the world,” said Rowe.

Epogee is expected to hit the market next year. The product will be used in chocolate coatings through Blommer Chocolate Company out of Chicago.
