It’s no secret that President Barack Obama is a basketball fan. In fact, each year he fills out an NCAA tournament bracket, just like millions of other Americans.
This year, the president has cast his lot with Indiana University, and it’s an honor not lost on the Hoosier players.
“I know he’s got a lot going on in the White House.” said Victor Oladipo. “For him to actually know who we are and actually know stuff about basketball is pretty cool.”
Will Sheehey also was humbled by the selection, “It means a lot for him to even know who we are. Hopefully, he picked it right.”
Senior Christian Watford takes the presidential selection as a good omen.
“Anytime you got the president riding with you, it’s a great thing,” he said.
Head Coach Tom Crean took the pick with a grain of salt, however.
“It’s really good, but I’m also concerned that someone said he’s 1-3 in his picks before,” Crean said. “You hope he’s right on this one.”
Coincidentally, if IU wins its first two games in the tournament in Dayton, the next stop is Washington, D.C., where perhaps President Obama will see his chosen team in person.
